Depends if you're going inside the chassis too and up inside the bodywork, minimum of 5 litres, possibly up to 25 to do a thorough job.

Might seem a lot but if you get a quote from the professionals to rustproof the vehicle you'll be looking at between £200 and £450 depending on what you want doing.

I no longer use this product though, having found others that are easier to use with less waste....better too?, time will tell.

Could you be specific there, please, GB?

Gladly John Boy.

I discovered Bilt Hamber's (Essex based) products via recommendation, they have an excellent website easily searched and found.

Very good products, the 3 types of underbody/cavity wax come in very large aerosols (cavity waxes come with really good long probe sprays that do not clog) or in bulk packs if you have your own sprayer and probes, more expensive than the product in this thread, but ease of use, less waste and almost no smell after about 2 days makes it as economical in use IMHO.

The range of other car related products they sell is well worth a look too.

No relationship other than as a satisfied customer.

As GordonBennett says, it depends if you plan to do inside the sills, crossmembers, box sections etc.

For what it's worth, I would suggest making a few phone calls to classic car restorers / specialists in your area and asking if they will do it for you.

When I had my old MGB V8, a local specialist did all the body inside and out for £70, using a proper compressor and spray wands that could fully atomise the Waxoyl for maximum coverage, AND reach inside all the closed sections.

Admittedly this was 20 years ago but you really need the right tools: aerosols and hand-pump devices just don't get the stuff into closed box sections correctly, and it tends to just 'sit on' surfaces unless either a) painted on or b) properly atomised under pressure.

Waxoyl is OK but I've found that the Dinitrol I applied on metal surfaces was still there after a year when the Waxoyl that I used previously had mainly disappeared. I'll stress that with my own car I'm only needing to protect brake pipes and subframes, not much else.

But I'll try the Bilt Hamber products when I've finally run out. If their tests can be believed, the comparisons between themselves and their competitors on sheet metal over a period of time look encouraging.

Rustproofing an entire chassis is not a job that you want to be doing every year so the longer it lasts the better.
