Renault Clio 2001 1.2 16v - Air leak from top of engine. New air flow sensor - markpip

Hi all, Car started off with coil light so decided to investigate as it came on at start..drove n stopped but after 5 mins light went out and it ran smoothly. So, took garage and it showed air flow sensor was faulty. Fitted new one...no light....brilliant..drove 7 miles home after stopping at conking out at every junction. Tempermental acceleration and then dropping revs. Now there's an air leak near top of engine at back. Air leak only started when new sensor fitted...never noticed air leak before. Any ideas?

The usual problem with these is the wiring loom. It's all encased in rubber and where it connects to the ECU there is a stupid loose metal housing that rubs through the insulation on the loom and causes alot of problems.

How would this cause an air leak. Since putting new air sensor on this leak has occurred. I can't actually tell where it is but it's affecting the revs n power. There must be an intake air valve or maybe throttle body fault.

Don't recall these having an airflow sensor.Do you mean the manifold pressure sensor that pushes into the plastic manifold on a rubber seal?

I'm just having mechanic strip n clean throttle body. See if it helps. Ran smoothly 5am today..no lit up coil or idle movement. I may clean manifold of oil n refit.

What! There iare a number standard diagostic method to find air leak and randomly changing things is not one

All sorted now. Engine running smoothly and no conking out or stalling. Cleaned throttle head, removed old manifold gasket..cleaned and replaced. Job done. £170 for new air sensor , coil pack ..and the above and now perfect.

So what it really needed was a throttle body clean and a new inlet gasket.Doubt if it needed air sensor or coil pack.About 1+ hours work;£60-£80.

Yes, a good throttle clean and a well spotted air leak at the manifold. Didnt need air flow sensor but that came up on diagnostics machine. Still going strong and no lights on dash.
