Next week I'm going to Drayton Manor and looking on Google maps it gives two routes avoiding tole roads. Wondering what people's opiniona are on M1 vs M40 both have the same eta but going via the M40 is 30 miles more.

We will be leaving at around 6AM so will hit rush hour traffic witch route will be more likely to have the least amount of traffic?

As a Midlander, I'd use the M40 then M42 to Jct 9, A446 to The Belfry and A4091 to Drayton Manor.

Whether you use M1/M6/M42 or M40/M42, you're still going to be in the Midlands rush "hour" but both are Managed Motorways with part-time hard-shoulder running.

Just check events at the NEC for your planned date - if there's a big show on the M40/M42 will slow down more than the M6/M42.

ditto... Be aware of current Roadworks on the M1... take care going past J4 High Wycombe M40 where it narrows to 2 lanes for the junction.

Check the traffic, roadworks and accidents on the day you travel. Not totally garanteed to give you the best route but what other option is there other than tosssing a coin.

Thanks everyone I will check before we leave. And thanks for the tip about the NEC.
