Fiat Panda 1.1 Active - Fiat Panda 2007 1.1 Active- ticking noise - ajudd18

Hi there,

I had my Panda serviced about 3 weeks ago and since last week I have noticed a very quiet ticking noise coming from the lower part of the engine. It sounds to me like its the hydraulic tappets. I was just curious as to what this noise might be because the car itself is perfect, it pulls away fine, there is no loss of power etc and no misfires etc. I spoke to the garage where I had it serviced and they put an oil additive in it and said that it would need a couple of weeks to work its way around the engine.

You only generally tend to notice once you've started the car up and once you've applied some acceleration in idle, apart from that once its warmed up, you won't hear a peep out of it. If it is the tappets, what would I do in terms of possibly having them adjusted or would I not need to do anything? Any advice would be great.

Thanks

What engine? As far as I can recall, the 1.1 and 1.2 engines do not have hydraulic tappets.

I'm pretty sure my son's 1.2 Dynamic had the clearances reset at about 2 years old, to cure tappet noise.

It's 9 years old now, nothing much has gone wrong with it - battery, and a sticky brake caliper.

The engine is a 1.1. It definitely sounds like tappet noise. Apart from this, nothing else has happened to it. I mean its my first car and its been well looked after, only one owner from new etc.
