I would just add that I'm currently driving a 2015 MX-5, ahead of its launch at the end of August, and the MINI will have to be very, very good to better the new Mazda. It's a stunning car to look at and drive.

Many have tried and failed and I can't see Mazda quaking in their boots yet. By announcing at this early stage that there will be a high powered version of the Mini seems to suggest that they believe that driving enjoyment is all about brute power. If you have such a philosophy then you are likely to be doomed from the start.
