vVW Golf 2.0 TDI - ABS unit on VW Golf - armchair

I have just been hit with a £1,300 bill for changing the ABS unit on my VW Golf, it is 5.5 years old with 47,000 miles onthe clock and a full service history from a VW dealer. Do you think that I am justified in asking VW for a goodwill payment?

Ask away, what harm will it do.

But you are 2.5 years out of warranty and normally goodwill payments stop well before this point. Even an extended warranty would heve expired at 5 years.

All part of the joys of motoring I am afraid.

So what was wrong with the abs unit that required a complete unit?

I suspect it's the notorious Teves MK60 ABS system which has a known fault. The chance of getting anything out of VW is pretty much zero. Dealers often skip scheduled brake fluid changes which encourages internal corrosion and doesn't help matters.
