Ford Focus Saloon - ford focus issues - shelly0205

Hi, I urgently need help as my friend is a single mother and needs her car. Its a 56 plate ford focus. The other week, the instrument cluster went blank and just read -----. She pulled into garage and turned the car off. When she attempted to restart, there was nothing but an immobiliser light and it wouldn't let her crank the engine. After multiple attempts and 30mins later, it actually worked and went back to normal. She took to a local garage and they have struggled so all they done was clean up all fuses and wiring and said it may help. It was ok for 5 days but then she came out of work and it wouldn't start, the car had been parked in the car park for 8hours so it wasn't hot or anything. After 45mins of trying and waiting, it finally started. She took it back to the same garage and they couldn't get it to start. It was difficult because as it is an intermittent problem, it has been hard to get it to not work when the garage has it. Anyway, they read the immobiliser fault code which was 1 flash followed by 6 and they told me that was a communication fault. They took apart the casing around the ignition barrel and checked the connector which has a few pins and they said it was ok. they clenae4d up wiring again and said apart from that, they don't know. It was ok for another 7 days but again one day after work, it wouldn't start again! A friend of mine plugged his snap on scanner and got a fault code which was p1260 I think. Something to do with theft code. Please please help

Is the local garage a Ford main dealer? I was charged a small fortune by an independent to diagnose and change a faulty sensor as my ECU was allegedly unreadable. In fact it turned out that there was no ECU issue bur their laptop with iffy software!

I suspect it's a known issue with some display clusters. Some contacts corrode case these type of problems. Find a auto electric who aware of this issue. Ford dealers will just replace the cluster at a cost of around £300

This is a fault with the instrument cluster.A known issue on this year of Focus. There are many specialist electronic repair firms that can fix this fault at reasonable cost.It is not a corrosion problem.A new cluster from Ford is around £500 and will need programming to the car. When it fails again, give the top of the dash a bang, just above the cluster, this usually brings them back to life.
