What difference does it make?

The link provided above shows you all

They are not similar.

The Vectra B (1996-2002) looked like the previous Cavalier (Vectra A in Europe), but with more rounded edges, improved suspension and a more modern interior.

The Vectra C (2002-2009) was a big step up in terms of ride, refinement and quality. Unfortunately they were not all that reliable, especially the diesels.

The Vectra B was unreliable

The Vectra C was unreliable

The Insignia is unreliable

If general motors are nothing else, they are certainly consistent!

I ran a Vectra B company car to 207,822 recorded miles. It was a 2 litre petrol automatic and was 100% reliable. It never needed engine oil top ups between services, and averaged 38.4 mpg overall (calculated using actual amount of fuel consumed). On the day it left me it drove as well as the day it was delivered. I hope it served its next owner as well as it did me.

I owned (not company car) a 2000 V-reg 1.8 Vectra B petrol from when it was 6 months old (it had been an ex-rental fleet car) for three or four years. I have just checked on the DVLA database and it is still taxed and tested.

Then a Vectra C 1.9 cdti which, apart from a precautionary cambelt and pulley change, didn't need any thing out of the ordinary apart from regular standard servicing. I got it up to 90000 miles and changed it about three years ago, and again, according to DVLA it is still taxed and tested.

Some might say I was lucky. Some might say things based on ex Top Gear presenter's views (who I like, by the way but can't agree with the anti Vectra thing). Some might say that the cars did as designed. Just my two-pennyworth.

Vauxhall Vectra B or C - Snakey

I've had three vectra C's (two petrol and one diesel)

Pretty reliable - biggest issue is springs seem prone to snapping otherwise I generally only had to service them.

Slated by those who've never had them simply because Clarkson didn't like them but a 1.8 VVTi Vectra is a cheap, comfortable, economical car.

"The Vectra B was unreliable"

Not from my experience. Had two which I took from 60k miles to 120k miles. Did what they said on the tin and did it very reliably. Also had an A (Cavalier) which was similarly reliable.

the experience of many of owners on the vauxhall forum would suggest otherwise.

All owners formus will have people with positive and negative expereices. All cars makes have cars that are more or less reliable than each other.

Does anyone have anything so prove a Vauxhall is any less reliable than similar cars?

Does anyone have anything to prove a Vauxhall is any less reliable than similar cars?

Only that they seem to languish near the bottom of the JD Power survey, and the What Car? reliability surveys.

Obviously some owners have had good experiences with them, but many more, who have not posted here, haven't.

Vauxhall Vectra B or C - old-school-tech

Vectra's were 10 a penny in the 2nd hand car market, you could buy a half decent looking one for a few hundred quid, and many people did, figuring that because they picked it up so cheap it wasn't worth spending the same amount on good maintainence.

those same people looking to save a few quid would skimp on oil changes, or basic servicing...end result, a broken down Vectra.

early 8 valve OHC engines would snap rockers like nobodys business, also suffered from extreme lobe wear on camshafts, possibly caused by poor oil, or just bad design..either way they wern't the most durable engines.

The only good vauxhall design was the early astra clutch set up, replacing a clutch without removing the gearbox...why didn't that idea catch on?
