£38 million extra tax...

Considering the average punter only swaps his motor every few years its hardly going to cost much. On an average car 1 month is less than a tenner so why worry. Costs me more than that in petrol every few days.

As for people not following the new rules that is nobodys fault but their own for not reading the well publicised changes.

True. See my other comments for a possible solution.

How difficult would it be (especially now that its all online) to have a system of transferring the current month's tax (minus a small fee for the cost of doing so), or even the entire period from the previous owner to the new owner, a bit like you would pay the outgoing householder for flat management fees or ground rent. Not exactly rocket science, and this would go some way to reassure vehicle owners that the government isn't entirely against them...

Still, it paid off 0.0015% of the UK government £1.56 Tn debt mountain!

Yea!!!

Where's my tax rebate then? I want my money! :-)

I see no-one mentions the cheques they get for the tax they had paid!
