Gov needs to make up it's revenue, massive debt to pay off, whichever party or group of parties wins the election the bigger surprise would be if tax had not been introduced on these cars - remember, electric technology justs shifts the pollution from roadside to the power station, wherever that is.

As we are running out of power station capacity due to fires and closages and no new ones are on order, all eelctric cars seem a risky buy.

And history repeats itself.

They encouraged the good little consumer into Diesel ownership, uh oh revenue loss, reverse reverse.

Electric will be encouraged untill everyone has one, then they'll pull the rug out just the same.

Few years ago we were heading into an ice age, then it's global warming, butter's bad for you, no it's not any more etc etc.

If you pay any attention to them and worse still act on their instruction of the day it only encourages them.

Some people choose to drive powerful cars with big engines that pay a lot of tax, while other people drive older, poorly maintained cars that use a lot more fuel than they would in good condition, and so end up paying extra fuel duty.

So I don't think that tax bands are a huge influence on the choice of car.
