I might invest in one of these, seem to be very popular and some insurers offering 12.5% discount.

Well worth having. I had a near rear end shunt recently when I car pulled out from a side road and then stopped in front of me. I suspect it was an attempted crash for cash scam.

There are so many accidents where it is your word against someone else's, that a camera is essential.

If you have a cam that reduces your insurance, does that mean you have to have the cam working to be insured? Is it another reason for them not to payout.

There's more to it than the DM article says - although a £20 cam may save your bacon if involved in a crash, only appoved cameras which are professionally installed will get you an insurance discount.

For example, Adrian Flux insurers only discount on the following professional installed:

• ChilliBongo
• ForView FHX 2000 & FHX 1000
• Auto Eye UK
• MI Witness HD Camera
• Black Vue – 380 & 400 G.HD
• VCAM
• IPIXI
• Next Base InCarCam – Lite / Deluxe / Professional Models
• SmartCam2
• Smart Witness Cameras
• Exeros HD Car Cameras -l HD 1080P model within built speed camera detection
• Roadhawk Forward Facing DC1
• Novus System – View I Ruby and Silver Systems
• TTW Black Vue Cameras
• Phantom Cameras
• Silent Witness – SW010

The real discount comes when you preserve your NCB because you can prove you were not at fault. Sorry to state the obvious.
