2011 jaguar xf 3.0d - servicing costs - hilbreman5

Hi

I'm thinking of buying a Jaguar xf 3.0d but I've heard that the servicing costs are horrendous.

Can anyone give me an idea of what to expect?

The car has done approximately 22000 miles.

Thank you

Personally, I wouldn't touch a modern diesel engine at that sort of age and low mileage, unless at a VERY low price. DPFs don't like low mileage and are expensive to replace, and on that car I believe there are 2 DPFs.

4 yr old car, out of warranty - call a local Jaguar specialist.

Jaguar, Porsche, MB & BMW are famous for inflated servicing costs

My son's Panamera was £400+ VAT for a first service - which to all intents and purposes is a oil change.

18 yrs ago I sold a Mercedes and bought a Japanese car - the MB cost £86 / hour at the local MB Glass Palace - 18 years ago and parts were expensive. Japanese parts are also expensive but the cars rarely breakdown.

"If you have to ask, you can't afford it".. a well known saying.

And it's true. Someone has to pay for the dealers' overheads... and that someone is the car owner.

22,000 in about 4 years is a car with potentially very expensive faults just around the corner. Big diesels need working regularly. 100 miles a week is about a quarter of what it should be doing.

Jaguar main dealers are eyewatering for servicing. I was fortunate as I knew someone who worked there and he always did a good deal for me, but I still traded my X after 18 months of tolerating it.

There are however many independents, but it depends how good they are with the modern engines.

Hi,

I think I'd be a bit wary of a 4 yr old *diesel* XF with 22k miles.

How about something newer but with more miles & regularly serviced, would that be in your budget ?

I have a 3L Petrol 10MY Luxury and I bought that at just under 3yrs with 28k. 25k later and everything is good, all it has required (other than petrol!) is the routine servicing which is about £200 once a year (petrol servicing intervals are 10k or annual whichever occurs first).

Just one thing is that you should perhaps take what any main Jag dealer says regarding pads and disks with a pinch of salt. At the past 2 services they've said "OOOO the pads & disks will need doing soon" but they don't, there is plenty left on mine.

BTW the Jag approved warranty has changed recently so that it covers cars up to 5yrs old (used to be 7 yrs). I wonder if this is because the warranty company has got bitten with some large expensive bills on the older cars ?

Hope that helps ?

regards,

Stu

To answer the OP's quest the 3.0d are fine and no big DPF issues like VW etc. Not to say like any diesel car i would get it checked first. Suspension problems are common and very costly, so make you ge it checked before purchasing

Service is much the same as BMW/Merc dealer £300 per go. Scare stories are more about pertrol that you be charged £300 for new plug alone!

Check all the electrics are they are the most common issues, else enjoy a premium car at less than BMW Merc prices.

I have had Petrol Jag and Merc also had a deseil BMW so I know first hand the in and out of each.
