And still they outsource work to China, and wonder why copies are on the streets mere weeks after the event.

Luckily they chose to duplicate one of the fugliest vehicles on the planet.

Imagine how much cash they could have made by duplicating a decent design.

Fugly for sure, but they sell.

Great looking vehicle.

The thing that interests me is the huge price different, is the genuine one really worth the extra £26k ?

The triumph of an acclaimed prestige badge.

Probably. The LandWind may be a death trap. Previous ones have fared badly in these tests.

That is true but, we won't know for certain unless it is crash tested. It's quite interesting how we think about cars and safety now, compared to how we drove potentially unsafe cars like the original Mini.

In it's day though the mMini wasn't seen as a dangerous car as it was not really any different from any otehr car from that era.

If you rode motorbikes as long as I did then you might tend to become a bit less sensitive to crash tests.

After all once you've travelled down the M1 on a bike with HGV's etc, actually having a warm snug window between you and the rest of the world feels pretty safe to me. Even if it is a 'trap of fiery death'. All things are relative I suppose.

I last 'crash tested' a Pan European St1100 and it hurt a lot.

You might wake up one morning, and find it has turned to rust, or the paint has flaked, or the electronics have stopped working, and in a crash you might be in a tin coffin. However, Chinese good can be first rate, and they are improving each year.

Spotted a couple of Great Wall pick ups round our way. If the trades people are using them it will be a pretty decent test of the their ruggedness. In the local paper the Pick Ups (if you like that sort of thing) looked remarkably good value to me at IIRC about £15K.

Rangers I believe are a few quid more and only have a 60K warranty as opposed to the GW' 125K warranty. They may be a bit wafty..I don't know but the manufacturer is standing tall behind the product and thats a lesson Frud need to take on board.

I'm old enough to remember how many years ago, we laughed at those funny little Japanese tin boxes....ain't laughing so much now are we.

My brother in law imports a lot of chinese motorparts in the middle east and when we were looking at prices told me. "Chinese companies will build to your quality and spec" "you want cheap ok!" You want good ok too!

Remember, first we laughed at the jap motorbikes then the cars, then the korean cars, now the chinese cars, and soon we won't be laughing when JLR decide to produce at 50% of the uk cost, first with the "volume models... and then.."

Exactly. However, Japanese were cheap, now they compete on quality as manufacturing costs in Japan are high. We may see the same thing with the Chinese, as wage costs increase, they can no longer compete purely on price. If you've ever dealt with Chinese people you'll know they will be world leaders before long, or at least the equals.
