Can't be many RHD English ones remaining. www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C605235

Fiat Mirafiori - 72 dudes

A good alternative to the Cortina/Cavalier/Alpine/Ital/Carina/Bluebird at the time. Sweet revving engine the best of the bunch.

When he says a sheep in wolfs clothing, do you think he just may have got it round the wrong way?! :>)

Shame they put that nice engine in a Lada.

I don't believe that is correct. Apologies to RW.

I was being sarcastic about the looks of this Fiat. I had a friend who had one and he often had people refer to it as a Lada.

Had one of these for about 6 months around 1980. Pile of ugly junk. Useless heater/ventilation, rust bucket. Heavy on petrol, horrible gearchange iirc made its performance a bit pointless. It depreciated quicker than a mister softee ice cream melting in summer, gave it away, glad to get rid.

It does look like a Lada. Then again, a Lada was a Soviet built Fiat.

Only if you close your eyes.

Wacky, I did wonder!

All fiat saloons of that decade look like a lada/polski fiat/124/125

I think they had one set of designs and an A3 photocopier with a zoom function....

Looks very like a Lada to me:

They fitted this engine to a few hundred Morgans

Friend used to buy a new Super Mirafiori in white every two years. Stonking car used to fly. He never had any problems either. I rather like them.

About as similar as a Renault 9 does. Next you'll be saying the Lada with a pronounced grille looks like a R-R Silver Spirit. :)

My mate in the 80's ( Phil) had a supermirafiori 2000TC. It looked and went very well. It was about the only one of them I'd seen that wasn't rusty.

He did seem to polish it every day, maybe that helped.

a R-R Silver Spirit. :)

Now there's an ugly box on wheels. Hand crafted for "special" people in need of a mobile panic room.

Here's one I made earlier.

My dad had a T reg one I was 9 or so (79?) Kind of RAF Blue, velour seats. I dont remember much more apart from rubbing my chin on the rear of the front headrest till it went red raw! WTF!

I think he had a Cortina on order but ford were on stike or something.

One was rallying here in Scotland till fairly recently. Dayglo orange.

Fiat Mirafiori - thunderbird

I remember looking at one in about 1978. If my memory is correct it had the 1.6 OHV engine and this was coupled to a 4 speed gearbox. It was only about a year old but the previous owner had upgraded to a brand new one which had just been changed to a 5 speed gearbox.

On the test drive it absolutely flew especially compared to the 1.8 Magnum I had at the time. It even seemed quick compared to my dads 2.0 Cortina. The engine was definitely an eager rev monster.

The rust stories and expense of maintaining imports back then terrified me so I stayed safe and sensible and bought a 1.6 Avenger which was slow in comparrison.
