It is interesting how the relationship between car salesman and customer got so adversarial. Due to lack of trust on both sides no doubt. I was lucky and for many years had a really good friend in the trade, from whom a bought lots of cars. My friend was not a mechanic or engineer and he really did not know if the car had faults or not. However the vital factor was that if a problem occured I had complete faith that he would rectify it within the terms of the contract. Quite often we got service above and beyond too. Some car salesmen of recent aquaintance are clearly lacking these skills and attitudes. A real pity. If 'rivernile' ever returns to the forum it will be interesting to read his comments.
PS
My friend was also a brilliant negotiator and had a wonderfully easy way of explaining the deal and the numbers that was understandable. I used to take him along with me when making a big purchase such as a washing machine. It was wonderful to see him ply his skills upon the poor unsuspecting shop assistants. They were happy to virtually give me the machine so we would leave the shop. Who said old f*rts know nowt?
Cheers Concrete
