VK GOLF mark vi - Spare key programming - Gabolino

Hi,

I bought a second hand vk golf that came just with one key. I've made a copy of this key (with the electrical chip inside) but now I need to get it programmed.

I don't know where this can be done. Somebody said to me a locksmith would do it...

Can anybody help?

Thanks in advance.

Some locksmiths can, some can't.You'll find plenty of their phone numbers in "Yellow Pages".

I would be very careful here.A non genuine key ,incorrectly programmed could be a very expensive mistake.Cloned or corrupt software can damage the electronic modules on the car and you could end up with a car that does not run.You have been warned.

Hi,

thanks for your reply. I didn't know an incorrectly programmed key could cause such damage.

Cheers.

Didn't there used to be away of doing this without taking to the dealer

Something like:-

>Turn Ignition ON and leave a key in the ignition.
> Lock the car turning the key in the drivers door lock
> Using the remote control press the Unlock button once( horn will sound once)
> Wait for a few seconds seconds and then press the unlock button once to activate the coding The remote control should now be programmed.

I think if there was more than more than one remote to programme you turn the ignition off inbetween and push the unlock button twice for the second key

Not sure this works for a Golf VI though..

I saw people on youtube doing this with GM cars. Not sure if it'd work with Vks but thanks for your advise.

I'm slighlty concerned now as somebody above warned that an incorrectly programmed key can actually mees up with the car's softaware.

Cheers.

Are you trying to program the remote so that the central locking works, or are you trying to program the transponder so that the engine will start with the new key? The former should be able to be done with VCDS. That latter can also be done with VCDS if you have an SKC code which would've been supplied with the car from new. VCDS will not extract the code, and so if you don't have it you can't do it. Unfortunately more recently VAG have not released the SKC code on newer cars, most likely for security reasons, and so it's likely to be a trip to the dealer for you. Even when programming the new key the VW technician won't get to see the SKC code as it's uploaded automatically from the factory during the process, so however much you plead with the dealer they won't be able to give you the code since they won't know it.
