Kia Ceed CRDi 1.6 2012 (older model) - Choosing Tyres - Aranstel

Changed from a Focus to this Kia a year or more ago and I need a new set of tyres now. From my own experience over the years I really notice the difference between the budget and premium tyres so I spend a bit more for the better tyres.

I am finding it hard to choose tyres this year, I read some good reviews on the Dunlop Sport Bluresponse and nearly ordered a set (£98 each), but then I saw a number of reviews saying they only lasted 10-15K miles, that’s not even 1 year for us! I guess they are softer than others - the price you pay for better grip.

I bought the car with Michelin Primacy 3s and although they have lasted well I would like a better ride. The car moves around more on some roads than I would like and sometimes unexpectedly turns a little needing a tiny steering change to compensate. I have had the Kia dealership check it out, but they found no problem.

I was looking at the Continental SportContact5 and Goodyear Eagle F1s but then I fear the Conti F1 wear is poor. There seem to be quite a few variations on the F1 which I find a bit confusing.

Anyway, I am looking for good but reasonably priced premium tyres (ideally £80-100), but a little more if needed. We drive faster than some, but we don’t really thrash or race the car. Please can you recommend some tyres that wear well and are good in the other areas too, i.e. good grip, economy and not the loudest.

Cheers,

Aran

Two tyres i would recommend would be Vredestein Sportrac, i had Sportrac 3 but i believe that now been superceeded, they replaced Michelin Pilotes and were better all round, only my opinion of course, some people would disagree.

Currently running Uniroyal Rainsport 3, took a couple of weeks to bed in but grip levels are well up to the normal excellent Uniroyal levels, reasonably quiet, decent ride.

I buy tyres from various online sites, i have a shortlist of suitable makes and models and when the right bargain crops up buy them.

A search on a site like Tyreviews might be worth your time, they link to most of the professional tyre test reports, a good a place as any to find out whats good and bad in the rubber dept.

The budget you give doesn't help a lot without a tyre size and spec to work to.

Same size as on one of our cars, its a popular size so choice and price is good, here's Camskill's page, some really good rubber there for around £70 a corner, + £3 per tyre postage + you'll have to get them fitted, i usually pay a tenner apiece.

TyreLeader worth a poke nose too.

Your tyres will have a load rating as well as the speed, V, you can go up in either but shoudln't go below whats specced for your car.

If you check these sites they usually give a noise measured in dB as well as fuel efficiency and grip, i'm none too convinced about some of the wet grip values stated (by the maker), my daughter had some awful ditchfinders that had a decent rating but were lethal in the damp.

I have a 2008 CRDi 115 BHP Ceed with the same sized wheels.

Currently using Kuhmo KU39

I paid around £80 each from Event Tyres including mobile fitting.

Good grip in dry and wet.

No noiser than previously fitted Michelins, Continentals and Maxis.

Personally, I find the Ceed quite noisy but not noisy enough to do anything in the 4 years I have had it.

It would probably be better on 15 or 16 inch.
