Mileage? Service history? Has it always had this problem, if not when did it occur? How long have you had it? What work was done to it immediately before the problem?

They've a stepper motor in the throttle body (drive-by-wire). A clean out may help.

hi.thank's for your quick reply.

milage is 93000.no service history.bought the bought the vechicle with broken gear box.fitted gear box then found this problem.

it is drive by wire with black piece on the side of the throttle body which is secured with pop rivet's with a four or five pin conector did'nt take much notice to be honest.can i safely drill out the rivet's and remove without springs and bits flying all over the place?(embarressing or what).

there is a little grub screw with a lock nut on top of the black part i assume is an adjuster of some kind.thats about all i can tell you about it

thank you in advance for taking time to read this.

any information would greatly apreciated...

I've never taken one apart, but I'd recommend leaving anything that's riveted unless you're desperate.

Can't you just remove the throttle body and give it a clean?

When I first got a '53 Almera 1.5, I thought the revs seemed to be 'hanging' at lift-off, but certainly not several seconds. Are you certain it's that long?

So what is actually wrong with the car?does it drive ok with no issues. Many makers build a "buffer" into the engine control system to stop engine stall on the overrun.Do not dismantle the throttle body/flap actuator.

I have no experience with the Almera but have some on the same aged Primeras.

The Primera has various relearn procedures involving throttle pedal presses. A quick google shows the Almera has the same.

Have a google for Almera N16 Service Manual.

Might be worth checking a previous owner has not replaced the MAF with a non-Bosch copy. Copies can cause strange problems.

car runs fine.runs a little fast when cold but i assume this is natural.runs a little lumpy on idle about 500 /800 rev. when not quite up to working temp.buea flick of the throttle sorts that.ok at running tempreture.

thank's for your reply.

removed throttle body and cleaned with carb cleaner

revs actuly go up when changing gear have to lift off throttle for about two seconds before dipping clutch and reves are still at 1500/2000.

seems just like i was a learner

thanks for your reply

Have you checked all the vacuum and breather pipes around the inlet manifold and air filter? Could be a leaky one.

diyservicemanuals has the manual you need.

The relearn procedures are under the ECU chapter

Follow the 'Without Consult II' instructions.

My Primera idled at 1500 if the clutch was dipped whilst moving.

diyservicemanuals has the manual you need.

Just remembered I've got something like that on CD. Seems you have to go through “Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning” and “Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning”, before “Idle Air Volume Learning”.

If you have any problems following McP's instructions, get back here and I'll see if I can help.

I have this same problem on my 2004 1.5 Almera. Have you managed to get any further? I'm going to start with a throttle body clean tonight.
