Fiesta or Corsa or Auris - Advice for a new car - melstin

What car petrol should I get?

Fiesta Titanium 1.6 2010/10 with 25K miles @ £7,200

Corsa SE 1.4 2013/13 with 20K miles @ £ 6,600

Auris 1.3 TR 2011/11 with 10K miles @7,500

I do 7K miles a year mostly in town and 1 long trip abroad.

Check who the previous owner of the Corsa was. Could be ex-hire or ex-driving school. For example, Vauxhall have a contract with BSM for the supply of Astras and Corsas - cars are kept for six months to a year, taken back by Vauxhall, refurbed, and sold through Network Q.

Having been involved in an accident with a Corsa at low speeds and watched it crumple like a tissue, don't get the Corsa. Large car hit me and the lady in the Corsa. My MX5 came off better than the Corsa. Also I learnt to drive in a Corsa and it was horrid.

I think they are all expensive for what they are, im sure you can find better prices if you are prepared to travel.

I would go

1. corsa , 2. auris, 3. fiesta

The Auris should still have the remainder of its five year/100,000 miles new car warranty left. Its a bigger car from the Golf/Focus market sector, whereas the Corsa and Fiesta are both superminis.

I have a n 11 plate Fiesta 1.25 which I'm swapping for an Auris. The extra space in the Auris plus the taller top (6th) gear makes it, for me at least, the better buy. The five year warranty is a bonus too.

The Fiesta will be livelier than the Auris, but seems expensive given that it's a year older and has over twice the mileage. Personally I'd avoid a Vauxhall.

If you want a supermini you should also look at the Toyota Yaris with the same 1.3 engine. This or the Auris will probably be more reliable in the long run. I can't remember when Toyota brought in the 5-year warranty, but assuming that the 2011 car has it, it's a plus point.

Toyota GB introduced the 5 year/100,000 mile warranty from 1st July 2010. Toyota Europe retained the 3 year/60,000 mile warranty.

If you regularly carry any largish items, check the boot of the Auris can accommodate it. Whilst the overall volume is OK, the back-of-seat to boot-lid ddimension is limited

The Fiesta and the Auris have averaged around maybe as little as 5,000 and 2,500 miles a year which might suggest nothing but lots of short trips, oil never really warming up, lots of clutch depressions, lots of braking, suspension knocking speed bumps. How may times have they been serviced? I'd look to pay less for higher mileage examples. Auris for me for quality, reliability or Fiesta if I enjoyed my driving.
