How far? - Robin
Bit of a trivial point this but it made me wonder.

Yesterday I was driving from Swindon to Gloucester (lucky old me) on the A419. At one point I saw a sign telling me that the M5 was 35 miles and Gloucester was 34. Odd, since you go under the M5 on the way to Gloucester. The next couple of signs said the same sort of thing: Gloucester closer than the M5. Then, I saw one with M5 13 miles, Gloucester 17, ie Glouceter 4 miles after the M5, which puts Gloucester in the right place.

No wonder the roads are so bad/busy when the powers that be cannot even measure distances correctly.

Reasonable, the distance to the M5 is the distance to the signposted junction not simply the physical object. Never having been in the area, I can't comment on the accuracy of the figures but it's something to bear in mind.

But you're right, sounds inconsistent!
