Vauxhall zafira 1.7 ecoflex - Turbo squeal - keef333
Hi, I have an 11 plate zafira and have a horrible noise while driving, not all the time but more often when cold or damp. It sounds like a belt slipping. I have had the belt replaced and other things checked, I have now been told that it could be the turbo 'winding down'. I have driven cars and vans with turbos on and have never heard anything like this, any clues? Could it be the turbo is defective? Or on its way out? The car is an ex mobility car with 20,000 on the clock so has not been hammered. I need to find out soon as I only had 6 months warranty on it and have already had the car 2 1/2 months. Help!!! Thanks in advance.

Fitting/make/misaligned belt or faulty tensioner, i had long term belt screeching problems on my old MB especially bad when damp and cold, after half a dozen replacements (incl OE) my indy, having found this to be a growing problem on lots of cars, tried a Conti which is now his preferred make, not a squeak since.

Insist on a good quality belt - I'd suggest Continental or Gates.

Also make sure the pulleys are thoroughly cleaned with a good solvent cleaner (I've found brake cleaner to be good for this). Diesel grime, oil mists and rubber from the old belt all contribute to the new belt continuing to slip.
