Correct.
The latest Micra (4th gen from 2010) is badly built (I get this information from a NIssan tech who says fit and finish along with QC is very hit and miss) in the same junk yard factory as the UK spec Dacia Duster was built in up until recently.
Nissan are meant to be copying Dacia's decision to move Duster UK production to Europe, by moving the planned next generation of the Micra away from this factory to Renaults Clio factory in France (looks like they are going to sell a re-bagged Clio in the future)
There is a common problem with the clutch (cant remember what he said) on the latest Micra, but Nissan seem to have done nothing as yet to sort it out.
However, it is praised for being easy to get in and out of and spacious inside (more spacious than a Juke im told!).
The 3rd gen (2003 - 2010) was well built but had various electrical problems (terrible idea by Nissan to use Reanult electrics throughout) and other serious component issues,
but most notoriously suffered from the 1.2 petrol engine stretching its tensioner belt and destroying the engine, plus the 1.5 diesel at the time had not been developed sufficently by Renault and suffered from numerous issues such as EGR valve sticking and drinking all the engine oil.
The 1st gen and 2nd gen Micras where a credit to Nissan.
Its really sad, that in chasing bigger and bigger profits, Nissan has turned its back on what made the Micra popular in the first place.
I dont intend on knocking Renault (the rubbish they have produced since 2000 does that for them), but Renault getting into bed with Nissan has undoubtably seen Nissan cars become increasingly unreliable.
I could tell you what Nissan dealer staff think of Nissan UK and their typical response to major known issues but you can probably guess.
Im grateful we still run 2 of the 1st generation petrol Notes, which are being increasingly identified as the last reliable, well built model Nissan has sold in the UK.
Im tempted to get a couple of 13 plate n-tec + models while they are still about as mr.Nissan tech reckons the jury is still out on the long term durability of the 3 cyclinder 1.2 petrol engine Nissan uses in various models including the new 2nd gen Note. He thinks the stop start system will only make matters worse.
