Ford Mondeo MK2 - Hot Starting Problem - carl233

I would be really grateful if anyone could assist with the following problem and what to look for to resolve? The vehicle has an intermittent hot start problem and when it occurs it will not start until the car has cooled down for approx 30 mins. Spark plugs are Ford OEM and been changed recently, HT leads are in good condition and battery tests show it fine and healthy. Engine is the 1.8 Petrol Zetec-e Not sure what to look for next?

This is a fairly old model ,but it still has some reasonable diagnostic facilty through the obd port.May be worth getting a scanner plugged in to see if there are any relevent faults stored.

Thanks for the info, the ODB was showing an issue with the crankshaft sensor this has been changed yet the issue still seems to be present. After reseaching the symptoms further I am thinking of swapping out the mass air flow sensor to see if this is causing a problem? The ODB shows no errors now yet the problem is still present

Very unlikely to be the maf sensor. The car will start and run with it disconnected, altough not 100%.Is there still a fault logged for cranksensor? You will need to monitor live data while in the non start condition.Could even be something as simple as a fuel pump relay.

thanks for the feedback it is an odd issue to say the least, all diagnostics are showing up clear a brand new Ford OEM crank sensor is now fitted but the problem still occurs. For my peice of mind I cleaned the MAF sensor and the issue still occurs, does anyone have any advice over what to look for next? Sadly the way things are going I might have no option but to throw in the towel and get a Ford Dealer to look at this.

Don't waste your time taking it to a Ford dealer.I doubt if they have worked on anything this old. They will probably tell you it needs a new ecu, which will make the car a write off.You need to search out a good diagnostic techie.Try a few local garages for advice. This really is a very odd problem and may be tricky to pinpoint.

Coil checked?

Perhaps the engine temperature sensor has failed and is trying to start on a cold cycle mode and so using a rich mixture.

Thanks for the advice, will seek a specialist locally and take it from there, coil seems alright and the diagnostics are showing with no faults. It really has me scratching me head.
