One of the many reasons why it's not for the UK is due to Renaults ambition to sell the Dacia 7 seater in the UK.

When we got our Espace new in 1988 there wasn't much else around for families like ours with four children. The competition caught up and the Espace seemed to fall out of favour.

Partly this was no doubt due to the quality control problems Renault had in the early 2000s, but I suspect that it was also scuppered by its own stablemate, the Scenic. You could have one with seven seats and it was a lot smaller and cheaper. Renault made something of a habit of this: the Safrane was killed off by the not-much-less-roomy Laguna.
