Today, I saw BIG 50 on a 4wd. I expect it was originally B 1 GSO. I wonder if the police ever enforce correct spacing and use of original letters/numbers?
Unless you actually definitively KNOW that law, then who says you're right, and it's illegal ? The law specifies minimum gaps, but says nothing about maximums.
So what was B 1 GSO could be made into B 1 G SO quite easily, and entirely legally.

I would have thought that anyone making number plates would know the law. Changing an 'S' to a '5' must be illegal, IMO.
In New Zealand you can pretty much have any combination of letters that has not been used before, and seemingly spaced as you like, I aint noticed it making much difference.
The laws around plate specifications here are mainly so the scam cameras can fleece us for more money for big crimes, you know like pulling through a red light to let an ambulance through, or into a bus lane to let a police car through...
