Vauxhall Astra - Vauxhall recall issue - Loose Chippings

In 2011 my car was recalled and a modification made to stop a possible issue of the horn not working when the lights are on.

Now 3 years on the car has developed the problem that the recall was supposed to fix. Should the dealer fix this for free based on this? The car is booked to go to the dealer who say will charge me for checking the fault but refund it if Vauxhall agree to a free fix..

They say they will need to check the car first before they contact Vauxhall.

How old is the car?Is this an Astra H model?

Yes its an Astra H model. (2006)

The recall was for erratic connections at the steering column module.This was fixed by attaching metal clips to the plastic body to make a more positve contact.Parts cost about £2.

Of course I only got receptionist at the dealer who could see car had been recalled before but don't think she believed me when I told her the car was suffering the same problem. They want £48 to check the fault, refundable when they check with Vauxhall that they will accept the cost. Of course if the original fix has failed which it sounds like it has, how long will the second one last?

I'm hoping commonsense prevails re charges when a mechanic gets a look at it. I also emailed Vauxhall customer service too for clarification. It would be great if they email me something positive that I can present to the dealer.

Garage have had car since yesterday. A new column integrated module is being fitted and it looks like Vauxhall will pick up the tab. Plus I have a courtesy car meantime.

Quite happy. Vauxhall picked up the tab for this repair. I suspected due to the age of the car they might not want to meet the costs but they did.
