Inexplicabbly goes into safety mode, so i stop and restart quickly and all is well?!?

I had exactly the same and it probably means a new EGR is required. Not my old car is it?! Last three reg letters were TZL.
A code read will highlight the problem. It is possible to blank it off, on this model it needs a small hole drilling in the blanking plate.
While the EGR is off it would be worth doing a full clean of inlet manifold etc.
