Nissan Micra K11 - misfire on start up - jackibatt

There are many entries on this site regarding misfire on nissan micra from 1995 to 2003 (K11 model ).

Many mention timing chain, camshaft sensor and so many other irrelavant items that I have lost count - whilst I'm sure the advice given is well intended, most of it is completely innacurate and misleading.

I have owned 5 K11 Micras - an excellent small car - any misfire has ALWAYS been caused by faulty spark plugs. Nissan say to replace them every 18,000 miles, but many of mine have lasted 30,000 miles.

A new set of 4 cost around £15 at most - just replace all 4 and stop messing about !

The electrode gap is quite critical at 1.1mm and usually, worn plugs display a wider gap than this - either clean them and re-adjust the gap, or better yet, replace all 4.

This has fixed every one of my Micras to date. Go for the simple solution first and stop looking for complex faults that don't exist. Jackibatt
