Peugeot 106 - Front pipe 106, saxo, ax ...£13 delivered ! - liammcl

Hi,
Don't know if this is the right place to post this...

I have just got a down pipe for my 106 1.1 from these guys
at £13.43 delivered next day !!

www.clickcarparts.co.uk/search.php?q=bm70001&x...0

Hope it helps someone..
Cheers
Liam

ps they have another listed at £40 *confused*
www.clickcarparts.co.uk/search.php?q=741-009&x...2

pps I fitted it yesterday, and it blew a little bit at the manifold gasket, but I didn't change the gasket or put any exhaust sealant on it..and i haven't changed an exhaust pipe before, so I dunno if it's just me.
I've added a bit of exhaust sealant around it as a botchit, and it seems fine today

Someone has complained that this is advertising. I don't think it is, as Liam has posted with us on previous occasions.

Sorry for any hassle caused !,

ps this is what I got up to...

just to add...

went to get some Jaffa Cakes before,

and noticed the driver side rear lights are not working.

everything else works ok.

Swapped the bulbs, nothing..
supplied 12v from another battery, direct to the light cluster
and both came on fine.

Narrowed it down to white wire, which connects to pin 5 has no voltage..
(pin 7 is earth, or -ve)

aahh...

so these cars have fuses, eh? :)

It was a red herring , as last week one of the 2 lights on the cluster stopped
and a "tap" got it going gain, so I was thinking loose contact, or wire.

I wondered if it could've been a fuse, but thought it would be unlikely for each rear light to have it's own fuse...how wrong was I !

All's good with the world again, I have seen the light :)

As, I've always said, ....it's a cracking little car ;)

Liam, did you ever get those brakes sorted?

I can't find the thread now, so can't recall what the results were.

Peugeot 106 - Front pipe 106, saxo, ax ...£13 delivered ! - liammcl

I did thanks Gordon, mate !

Impressed the neighbours no end :)
I got a Thai curry, and some Indian home made biscuits out of it :)

The car is brilliant now !
It may have been a dodgy MOT before,
as there was very little efort on both of the back (<50)
and a 38% difference on the front !

I greased the ones on the front , push them back and forwards a few times, and clean some gunk of the pistons. The pistons were marked, but to replace them was for another day !

The back brakes were swapped as a kit... £50 from Peugeout , cheaper than Ebay !
they must've had a set lying about on the shelf !

I changed the driveshaft too, which was surprisingly easy !
(£24 delivered ! 2 year warranty)
s103.photobucket.com/user/liammcl_2006/media/Hones...8

The allen bolts were going nowhere ...
I had my head under the arch dremelling them out !
s103.photobucket.com/user/liammcl_2006/media/Hones...5

After all that, took it in to have it fail with exhaust leak and emissions... but I did bring it in cold, and the guy left it an hour before the mot !

I then changed the oil, oil filter, air filter, gummed the exhaust, put some Cataclean in and took it fo 1/2 hour on the motorway....and it passed first time !

That was last week... this week, I decided to bite the bullet and get a proper downpipe.
..and yesterday foun the back lights had stopped working ...which I was worried about getting a fine or points incase another bulb went !

It is great that the parts are so cheap... as I am slowly rebuilding the car from the bottom up :)
It is an enjoyable hobby tho', I must admit !

Hope all is good with yourself.
Cheers

Bloomin marvellous Liam, and thanks for asking, weathers great, married to one of the finest women to ever walk Gods earth, family all in the rudest of health, who needs more...apart from the lovely ladies out and about dressed suitably to admire when the good woman isn't about..:-)

See, the work you're doing now is great, cos you're learning how to save yourself pots of money in years to come as well, through doing your own work and seeing how things are made (made to be fixed in the field?) will influence you in years to come what cars you will buy, more importantly what sort of things to avoid, keep it up mate.

Even when you're an old dog like me you'll still be at it, but trust me the savings over a motoring life are well worth it.

regards

Tha's great to hear Gordon :)
Lets hope the good lady never catches you admiring the local fauna ;)

Re the car fixing..: Defintiely !
The money is a major factor, as is the interest of finding out how things work.
(I've always wanted to learn about cars,
and have tried a course, spread over 5 sessions, but there is only so much they can teach a beginner in that time.

...but with this car, bits break, and it's not a major worry, as it is quite "do-able" and simple to fix (famous last words ;) ) & Youtube is an absolute God send! )

I am getting quite a reputation on the street. People are stopping, as they are passing, and asking me about their own cars.
My standard response, is, a sharp intake of breath, a shake of the head, and a comment of "sounds like the big end thrust bearing" :) )
It is a great way to meet the new neighbours and find out the local news!

I do computers (mobile fixing) as a day job, but that is starting to dry up ,
as people are going over to tablets, and the next generation are becoming more computer savvy...so it is time to start looking for other ways to top up the earnings !

Last night, I was even considering buying 106s and 206s and doing them up,
but I will have to do more research into that. I imagine it would annoy the neighbours, hassles of people coming back with minor probs, me buying lemons of cars, , insurance to move the cars etc . ..all for £200 profit
( 106s are going cheap as chips on Gumtree, 12 mths mot for £500-£600.)
Maybe 206s would be better... I've heard they are similar under the bonnet.
(I see the 1.4 hdi has silly mpg, it may be worth looking more into that for myself !)

Anywho, I doubt anything will come of it...but it is good to even contemplate the idea !

All the best Gordon, enjoy your summer hobby :)
No doubt , i'll be back again , when another piece falls of my lego car :)

Cheers
Liam

These 106s and Saxos, especially the lesser 1.0/1.1 versions are often acused of being flimsy and lacking build quality. Yet just take a look around you. The last ones rolled of the line 11 years ago now and yet they are EVERYWHERE, and in quantity too!

I see them on motorways doing very well in the fast lanes, small towns have a least a couple in every street, and of the thirty or so cars I can see from my office window, I count 8 of them as I type.

I see P and R reg ones with seemingly no visable corrosion at all although things can get a little crusty underneath when severly neglected, it is rare.

The missus has one,a base 1.1 R reg 106. Cost her £100.00 a year ago, is as solid as a rock corrosion wise. Runs really well and just passed an MOT with no advisories. Parts, if needed are plentiful and very cheap.

Many cars have been accused of being the "new Morris Minor" but no car deserves the title so much as this little beast... without the rust and the compromises of a real Minor though!

Respect to the little thing, basic and cheap motoring at its best.

Just a quick note,
I wanted to say many, many thanks to all who helped with my little 106 over the years..
It's been problem free for the last year, and has just sailed through it's MOT a few days ago.
Tbh, I kind hope something will go on it , as it's been too long without a tinker :)
All the very best & many thanks.
Liam

Good to see you're still leering about Liam, and still got that trusty little 106 too, great, as the poster above said a truly cracking little car, my daughter still misses hers and it wouldn't surprise me one bit of she found herself a rare as hens teeth GTi and went back to one.
