If you want some considered replies, you should say a bit more than this - not least out of courtesy. What sort of work do you need the car for, for example?

L/R Freelander and Subaru Forester/Legacy Outback are a couple off the top of my head, plus these come standard on tyres that whilst not necessarily standard winter rated (unless specified) are sensibly sized and M/S patterned.

Octavia 4x4 or Scout would fit the bill

A6 Quattro has a self-locking centre differential so permanent 4x4 which also works when decelerating. With EDL, up to 100% of power can be sent to a single wheel if that wheel has all the grip.

The BMW xDrive is RWD with an electronic clutch with also engages FWD to supplement the RWD but only up to 50% bias to the front axle.

I think the A4 is Haldex but stand being corrected.

VW Audi and any VW group car like Skoda will use one of the Quattro systems, so basically will all work about the same based on type i.e. full time x4 or differential. Remember tyres have a massive affect on driving in snow and the wet, maybe more than the x4 drive. In snow my BMW 320d with summer try was the most scary cars to drive and with winter tyres a near jeep!

BMW are basically rear wheel drive cars and nearly all VW/Audi/Skoda are front wheel cars by nature. So VW basically have system that make the rear have drive and BMW have systems that make the cars front wheel powered.

The BMW system is newer in design based on a clutch and not hydrolic/reactive like the Quattro(A3/TT have Haldex). There is a newer Quattro system that electric , but not sure if it out as yet.

Either system will work well. Maybe the newer BMW system is slightly better, but not much in it.

Personally I no a VW/Audi person simply because with TT and others I struggle to get in/out without banging my head. Someone needs to buy them a better tape measure. I have an SLK roadster and that easy to get in/out of, so why not the Scirocco/TT/A6

Anyway hope that helps
