I believe that's a 6 cylinder engine ?

BMW have had a number of issues with injectors on 6 pots since (about) 2005. However, I'd be more concerned about the servicing record than that. If it's been serviced to the 'official' BMW intervals, then it might have only had 5 oil changes in 94k / 7 years.

Not nearly enough

Not nearly enough

if it is otherwise excellent for the year, knock the owner down for the lack of oil changes. When you get it home, do a proper oil change and flush. Repeat in 3k, then regularly every 6 months or 6k.

Hi thank you for the response it has full bmw service history did not have chance to look through it the car has now sold and I did not get it : ( gutted it was a tidy car but I still feel relieved funnily enough as I know e60,s are very high maintenance and maybe should think myself lucky and go look at a car thats more cost effective.

I wouldn't say that the E60/E61s are high maintenance at all - though maybe it's just me being lucky with mine.

I had a 2006 520d (manual box) estate for 4 years (from 10k miles to 90k), and never had a problem with it. BUT I got the oil/filter changed every 9k miles, it was an SE (so no stupid hard suspension to help wear things out), and I was doing lots of motorway runs, so again not so much stress on the various parts.

As said, maybe I'm lucky. Or maybe it's that I actually look after my cars, rather than most company car drivers, who just drive them, never check levels, and are then surprised when things break.

I just get worried based on all the things I have read in forums about e60's I currently drive a e39 525d fantastic car has 265,000 miles now so I was naturally wanting an e60 but iam scared to be honest to get one.

E39 lovely car, indeed in saloon form togther with similar age 7 series two of the most handsome they ever made, and nothing at all IMO to be gained by going for the later shape, why not find one of the increasingly rare low mileage E39's still about, give it lots of TLC, rustproof it and run it for as long as you can, you know these cars inside out now, use that knowledge?

I might know someone who has does exactly that with his old Mercedes W124, 18 years old now and showing every sign of going for the next 18, whether its present owner lasts that long is another question entirely...;)

Thing is you don't need to go Diesel for economy either, good Gernam engines take very well to LPG conversions, if you're going for long term ownership term then its worth considering.

Well my current e39 saloon is still good really but I need an estate really and I get bored of cars easily so fancy a change with somthing more modern really I have had it 5 years which is long enough but I feel I can't drop down from a bmw now only to a merc or audi maybe but just not confident any e60 would be as reliable as my e39.

Sorry to jump in but I'm not having the best of luck with my 5.20 m sport, only had it 2 weeks and 5 warning lights come on all at once, the wipers won't switch of, no power steering, no electric windows, the cars not driveable. It was a private buy and the previous owner new there were problems because he had already been messing in the boot, however I will have it put right and then sell it, that will be my experience of BMW over. I suppose I should have been more carefully and inspected the car more closely. Sorry for jumping in.
