Insurance renewal - Forgot My Name

I've recentlly changed cars from 05 to 07 plate, engine size is the same 1.8, insurance is up for renewal, having used 2 comparison sites, quote has doubled!!

10 years NCD, and all other personal details are the same.

05 plate was valued at £1200, 07 plate is valued at £2500, does that explain why the quotes have doubled?

Any suggestions or companies for finding a lower quote?

I recall a colleague having trouble like this just with an Astra, even just a 1.6?, between two model years. I think the BHP increased on the newer one.

Though both cars are 1,8, are they similar power output?

In my experience you have to trawl through EVERY one of the comparison sites to find the actual lowest quote. Two isn't enough.

If you still get nowhere, an actual human broker has got to be worth a try.

Increased value of car will have an effect. Insurance group is 1 higher - group 9 to group 10. Most comparison sites are not impartial - most have insurance companies as owners or shareholders. Try phoning around some of the insurance companies directly.

The only reason is risk profile. If the new car has been subject to a large number of claims the premium will be higher.

Exactly. A higher proportion of Primeras are privately owned and do low mileages, whereas many Vectras pound the motorways in the hands of kamikaze sales reps.

I'm not saying that's how insurance companies should work premiums out - just that they do, which makes it unfair to lower-mileage Vectra drivers.

I would say it's worth going to a specialist broker anyway. For the past five years I've used Keith Michaels for my company car insurance and I always check comparison sites just in case but they're always the best deal.
