With so many cars being damaged by floodwater or falling debris - the second-hand car trade is going to be awash (sorry) with these cars soon - not a good time to be buying second-hand.

Why would any trader take in a flood damaged car and why would any punter buy one? Can't see a problem, personally. Most of them will be insurance write-offs I think

Sadly, unscrupulous traders could take in cars which have beeen saturated but dry out and look OK , and sell them as if in perfect condition to unsuspecting punters.

Does any of our experts have ideas as to what tell-tale signs to look for in such a car?

I think one of the biggest clues is silt. It gets absolutely everywhere, so you just need to check places no one has thought to clean. You would have to strip a car completely to get rid of it, and that would not be economic

Why is there water in the spare wheel well?
Aw to tell you the truth yeah, it has just been valeted innit.

Why is there an extra wire running from under the bonnet around the a pillar and hinges past the door seal and behind the dashboard?
To tell you the truth bruv I never saw that before must be an extra alarm brap! brap!.

Why are there so many warning lights and error messages?
Just needs the service lights turning off, just been serviced actually.

I thought flood damaged cars should be Cat A (fully submerged) or Cat B Half submerged and both these catagories should prevent them re-emerging repaired.
