Audi Q3 - Advice on test driving an Audi Q3 without buying - red_ross

Hi Everyone,

I'm hoping you can help me out with a bit of advice on getting a new Audi Q3. Having looked at the options I think my wife and I are set on going down the leasing route. I know it has its pros and cons, but overall we don't want finance on something that's going to depreciate so quickly.

Having had a good look around we found the following deals http://www.intelligentcarleasing.com/deals/audi/q3/ which seem to be pretty competitive when comparing against other contracts on the contract hire and leasing comparison site.

Now on the phone the guy who helped us seemed pretty knowledgeable and the rates shown were actually what was on offer (I tried a couple of places that when you phoned up the deal was no longer available or only on a limited number of deals). So from that side of things I'm happy.

The only gripe I have is not being able to drive and get a feel for the car before receiving it. How much of a hassle is it to go to a dealership and arrange a test drive without actually having to go through a lengthy and pressured sales pitch? Also would I be best going to an Audi dealer or would anyone do? I guess it doesn't really matter as nobody is going to be letting you test a brand new model anyway.

Thanks in advance for the advice,
Ross.

Why don't you attempt to hire one for a couple of days instead of wasting the dealers resources unfairly? As an aside, I think that you already know the answer to your question, you just want someone else to tell you!

I would double check HP in certain circumstances can be much more flexible than leasing so can a bank loan and cheaper in the long run..

There should be no hassle getting a test drive from a dealer - even if hey don't sell you the car, they might get to service it and make more money that way.

I had a test drive in one last year (Audi Newbury) and just made it clear that I was thinking of putting it on my shortlist for the next car. Generally a nice car, but not as much fun to drive as my Octavia vRS - mainly because the steering didn't feel so direct.

Just gone through the same process with a new Qashqai. I found the best deal I could from one of the online leasing companies and went to my Nissan dealer to see if they could match it, which they did. The fact that they also offered me a good price for my current car made it a no brainer. I suppose if they hadn't been prepared to match it that might have made asking for a test drive a touch awkward.

If one dealer won't let you have a decent test drive go to one that will. I have never bought a car from a dealer without having at least one test drive.

I've driven all sorts of cars as part of research, the best being 2 hours in Freelander 2 including an off road course for an hour. Car dealers expect it, they know not everyone who drives a car will buy one.

I agree with turbodogz. Go to an Audi dealer; tell them you are thinking about leasing a Q3 and ask for a test drive. If they offer you a worse deal than you have on the table don't feel bad.

+1 to all of the above -- don't feel in any way bad about going to a dealer and asking for a test drive, whether you intend to buy from them or not. And who knows, they might offer a decent deal and get your business anyway.

Hi everyone,

Thanks so much for all the great advice, I especially like turbodogz suggestion of going for a test drive and asking if the dealer can match the offer I've found online. Hiring one for a few days could be an option but I think as others have said dealers know that not every test drive will lead to a guaranteed sale (otherwise they'd be very rich indeed).

Cheers,
Ross.

Dont Audi dealers themselves arrange lease and PCP deals?

Find one that does, express an interest and tell them what you want, get the test drive and let them quote.

If they are more expensive than the provider you are currently looking at you have justification for walking away.. If they will match the deal or undercut it its a bonus.
