Volvo V70 Estate - VoMain Beam problem - GM8511

I have a Volvo V70 Estate 2003 Moddel and the main beam comes on but will not stay on as the switch lever on the stearing column does not seem to hold the beam on. The main beam works if I manually hold the lever in position so it is something wrong with the switch on the stearing column or something else?

Have you turned the lights on?

If you're running in DRL mode with the light switch to 0 they will not stay on.

Head lights stay on it is just when I want full beam that I cannot get to stay on. I have to hold the lever arch in the full beam position.

Try pushing the lever instead of pulling it normally works on 99% of cars.

But not on a Volvo V70 which is pull only.

Yes, but are you sure you have the headlight switch on?

When in normal daytime running mode you have full dipped beam all the time and main beam will come on when you pull the stalk but will only stay on unless you have also switched the headlight switch on (vertical position on a 2000-2007 model),.

The point I was making although not very well is that if he reads the manual first there would be no need to ask the question. As you rightly say the OP has not turned the headlamps on.

True.

I've come across this loads of times. I've lost count of how many Volvo's I've sold where the customer has come back complaining the main beam won't work when they haven't switched the lights on.

Of course, there could be a fault in this case, but 99/100 it is the light switch in the wrong position.
