This once great club must be now considered a joke ?

Ten managers in ten years ! Brian mc Dermot apparently sacked and then reinstated !

Leaving aside the foot ball ,what a way to run a large business ,corner shops must be run better .What do the directors of clubs like leeds ,Portsmouth etc get from their involvement .Do they draw a large salary for their investment .

I'm not a rabid leeds fan ,but you have to feel for the long suffering fans at leeds .
Would the clubs fare better if the fans controlled them and how could that be achieved ?

10 managers in ten years is far too few for the new owner. As owner of Cagliari for 20 years he has changed the manager's office door plate 36 times!

To make a £1m in sport you start off with £10m.

They'd be bankrupt in weeks. The average fan spends half his time moaning that his club won't "Invest" (ie P money up against the wall on transfer fees and wages) and the other half whining like a baby when the inevitable happens and the club goes bust.

It's a thankless task being a football manager. In general (and I know there are exceptions) the successful clubs are the ones with chairmen/owners who appoint a good manager and then let him get on with the job. It helps if the chairman/owner knows something about football.

Isn;t it Blackburn who are in trouble as they're owned by an Indian chicken-processing company?

Yes, and the owners thought they were buying into a Premier League franchise. They didn't realise they could be relegated till the manager told them half way through the season.

You have to feel for the fans as more and more clubs are being subjected to "modern Football" these days. Money is the root of all evil and it is becoming more prominent in football. These people coming in with money and are looking at Man City and think the same can happen again.

It is a shame.

I'm 29 so just old enough to remember Leeds when they were still a top side. I remember them in the Champions League against Valencia more than 10 years ago and within two seasons they were relegated. Shortly after they got relegated again and it was all due to financial mismanagement.

The Venkys group who took over Blackburn are also a complete joke. The two clowns who dragged Liverpool through hell for three years are also the sort of people we just need to get rid of.

I don't see fan ownership happening because it's not the model of this country. You can't even blame Sky Sports and commercialism for that, English clubs have always been privately owned since many of them were formed in the late 19th century.

A mere stripling

I was at Leeds Bradford airport to welcome them back after losing in the European Cup Final in 1975.

Pah, another youngster.

I was at Upton Park in 1966 when West Ham thrashed a full strength Leeds side 7-0 in the league cup.

Aren't Barcelona and Rael Madrid owned by the fans and controlled by directors ,voted onto a board by fans ?

Surely that's a better option than the situation for many uk clubs ,who are owned by attention seeking business men who seem to have little knowledge of how to run a football club .

Most German clubs as well including BM with no financial problems and probably one of the best grounds in the world.

As I said, it's not the model of this country. Real Madrid & Barcelona are members clubs for sure - so is Osasuna and one or two others in Spain I think.

Even that isn't perfect, Barcelona is £500 million in debt with over £50 million of negative equity. In 2010 they couldn't pay their players salaries and went cap in hand to the bank for a £100 million loan to keep the club running. Only a certain law in Spain called the 'act of sport' stops Barcelona being treated like any other business. Barcelona & Madrid also wield heavy political influence and their strength is unfair in Spain, between them they take around 75% of the broadcasting revenue with the other 18 clubs sharing the rest. In England at least every club gets equal share.

Practically every German club was a members club from day one and some of what they achieve is great. Bayern Munich subsidised their fans tickets for their trip to a***nal last season, because Bayern view a***nal prices as obscene. The tickets were £60 or something, but Bayern paid nearly half of it for each of their supporters.

Our model has always been private ownership and for the most part that's fine. a***nal is probably the best run club in the country & people can criticise Chelsea & Manchester City all they want but my god they've made football incredibly interesting. Those Arabs especially are obsessed with football, they love it. I'd rather have them involved than Liverpool's situation whereby Liverpool FC is just a subsidiary of a Boston based sports franchise company.
