Is it only me or are there others who have noted things like this. I travel on a dual carriageway it’s not that long about 1 mile the speed limit is 40mph .About half way along there are traffic lights .There are on regular occasions vehicles that set off down the road like at F1 starting grid (I assume that vehicle fuel is verry cheep to some) get I guess to about 60mph only to anchor on at the midway lights they are usually on red (as they are linked lights) and then off again .If someone is doing any reasonable speed or not going fast enough in the right hand lane then it seems it’s OK not just to break the speed limit but to cut up anyone in left lane so as to undertake because they are in such a rush. What I cannot work out is why it’s BMW 90% of the time. Are they exempt from the Highway Code? Or is just the games console attitude you get with some BMWs and is it compulsory?

It's because they sell lots so you see them everywhere - 50 years ago it was the same with Cortinas.

They may sell lots, but the Beemers and Audis seem to be disproportionately present. I think it's more to do with the mindset of the drivers. So the Cortina analogy is not surprising. I can do it, I can afford it, so I shall.

Audis and BMWs seem to have build quality isses also. Lots of them seem to faulty indicators.

Along with Mercedes drivers they reckon the excessive prices they pay to buy/lease/service these things includes ownership of all UK roads.

He is a salesman and drives a Ford Focus. I on the other hand am an Area Manager and I drive a Beemer. Look at me! Look at me! Wheee!

There was a time when I would try to keep up with them. Now I sit there smugly thinking what fools for paying much more than me for their unreliable ugly cars and for taking a job that has made them forever chasing time they don't have.

There's a continually worsening standard of driving out there, often seen at its worse in company cars, the two makes mentioned of which seem to be the only choice for the clone at the wheel.

Those declining driving standards only reflect the way people behave in other parts of their lives.

Yes it really was better, and not so many years ago.

I drive 40 odd thousand business miles per year and find that driving standards are generally lower at the weekends or on bank holidays.

High mileage business drivers tend to drive swiftly but are generally more predictable and disciplined in their approach to a situation than those who use the trunk road network less often.

Most company car lists are weighted towards BMW or Audi cars these days. The lease costs are often low compared to other makes.

I'll go along with Benugo on that - I was was doing much the same business mileage in the eighties and early nineties and used to dread occasionally having to drive long distance at the weekends because of the saturday/sunday numpties.

I absolutely agree about lower standards of driving at weekends - mainly because fewer of them seem to know where they're going.

Higher residuals make the three German premium marques good value for business leasing. It's human nature for most people to have aspirations, and you can't blame them for going for a prestige marque when it's on offer - even though a Ford is in most ways as good to drive.

....although, interestingly, I have had more compliments on my choice of car since I've had Skodas than I ever did with an Audi, a Mercedes and two VWs.
