Just seen a report that Mitsubishi is interested in signing up Chevrolet dealers when Chevrolet pull out.

Not sure how that will work. All the Chevrolet dealers in our area are Vauxhall dealers, always presumed they sold/serviced Chevrolets because they are both GM with some common parts.

I think Chevrolet/Vauxhall had/have a mix of types - some Chevrolet only, some both and some Vauxhall only.

Many dealer chains are quite happy to change franchise at specific locations at the drop of a hat.

Not all, as the "investment" for the franchise for some dealers only a year ago is a big investment, I know of several who say they have bought thousands of pounds of tooling as required and most of it will now never get used. same for "staff training", signage etc etc, easier for a national chain (who get volume) " discounts to suffer the hit, but I really feel for the smaller, usually family owned dealers.

Great Wall cars are also meant to be interested.

Great Wall cars are also meant to be interested.

The last time I enquired at Great Wall, they had no timescale for bringing the cars in, seems various problems with ncap ratings (if you believe the motoring press) and the pricing structure. On another thread, hopefully the MG5 will be priced at abot £9995... as the "expensive" list price for the MG6 has put people off. Mg3 sales are "slow"

Great Wall brought their wares into Germany countn`t pass any test and disappeared as quick as they came, why on earth they set up a minimal chain of agents or even brought their cars before checking all the rules I will never know .

According to Wiki, the Great Wall vehicles classed as commercial are exempt from EU safety regulations - Great Wall has also obtained EU Type-Approval for some of it's paasenger vehicles allowing them to be sold anywhere in the EU.

Suprised,

IM Group said the great wall steed 4x4 sales where on target and expected to grow.

Great Wall are expected to be the first Chinese manufacturer to enter the UK

Had a drive of a steed 4x4, its rather good for the money.

Our local Daihatsu dealer has been selling Great Wall 4wd pickups for several months. Looked them over when I went for a filter for daughter's Charade.

I've always thought IM didn't do Daihatsu or Subaru any favours in the UK.

So 1800 registrations in 2013 for Subaru is good?

I must be getting challenged inthe logical thinking department. When I last looked at IM they were making loads of money through inflated prices...despite sales falling year on year..

Not 100% certain but I thought Daihatsu, Proton, Isuzu and Subaru were all IM brands. Our local dealer sold all 4 brands from one showroom for years. Its a car park now.

Ignoring Proton the other 3 brands had relatively small sales but loyal customers and some interesting niche products.

Daihatsu have gone, and when was the last time you saw a new Proton. Harly ever see new Isuzus and Subarus nowadays either.

Not exactly a success story especially when other small brands like Hyundai and Kia have dramatically expanded in the same time period.

No !!

Do you remember when Octav Bonar held the Datsun import franchise for the UK - Nissan decided to bypass him and import direct and have gone from strength to strength ever since - the same needs to happen to Subaru.

Subaru had a very loyal following in the UK but failure to import enough "halo" models of Legacy and Outback has driven the brand to the brink of extinction. Only now, in 2014, can you get a diesel automatic Subaru - VAG have been doing automatic diesels since at least the mid '80s.

Bit different in truth. Back in about 1991 Octav Botnar was charged with of owing loads of tax and his company's Nissan UK and AFG (who sold Nissans) ceased trading. Nissan formed Nissan GB and took over the importation of their own cars and established new dealers.

So you are disagreeing with my statement yet saying Subaru Japan should take on the selling directly.

I'm confused !

As far as I'm aware Proton UK is a subsidiary of Proton - nothing to do with IM Group.

IM Group (formerly International Motors and, before this, Jensen Parts & Service) have been the importer of Subaru since 1977, Hyundai from 1982 (before Hyundai set up their own operation), Isuzu from 1987, and Daihatsu from 2000 (when they purchased Daihatsu (UK) Ltd), and now they have Great Wall.

IM Group were originally based in West Bromwich (where Jensen were), and moved to Coleshill on the other side of Birmingham about 6 years ago. Also into Property Development and Finance.

From 1982 to 1997, I worked in West Bromwich area - used to be quite a few IM Group company cars knocking about (all Subarus).
