Auto trader From the telegraph.. - Prices going up? - oldroverboy.

Guardian Media Group, the publisher of the Guardian, has sold its stake in Trader Media Group to Apax Partners for around £600m to bankroll its loss-making newspapers and website.

So can we expect the price of selling on autotrader to go up? or am i just a bit cynical???

The Guardian might agree with you.

Others might expect more efficiencies to produce higher profits on the same turnover. There's plenty of competition as far as I can see, even though Madjeski built a brand in the market first (I think).

It's true autotrader has a very strong brand. So strong that I can't really think of another site to look for a car, apart from ebay. I did eventually find one or two others but found them very hard and unfriendly to use.

Guardian Media Group is a leftwing trust set up solely for the purposes of maintaining cash flow to keep the Guardian newspaper operating.

As no-one wants to read the Guardian it is loss making, so all the ancillary publishing activities are there solely to prop up this ailing newspaper.

Eventually GMG will have sold off everything that makes any money to maintain The Guardian and it will cease to be (Praise the Lord when that happens!). It can't happen soon enough.

Of course the Guardian rants often about companies avoiding tax.

But surporisingly, the GMG have domiciled the holding of these assets in the Cayman Islands .. which is a well known tax dodge. So teh profit on the sale is not subject to any UK taxes.

Don't do as I do, do as I say.. champagne socilaists.. spend anyone's money and tax the rich --- but not tehmslevs. (see also Tony Blair)...

Readership of the Guardian 150,000. Biggest buyer of the paper? the BBC...

I agree absolutely with Happy Blue about the Grauniad, as Private Eye calls it - but it's a great source of funny typos (e.g. "the bride and her broom swept down the aisle"..."the moral satin of Clinton's career").
