Latest model - Buying a new VW polo - gillyd
Hi all. I am set on buying the above and found out yesterday that a new version is being released in June.
My question when should I buy the present model to get the best discount? I've read the new model is likely to be the same price so I feel I need to get a good discount. How much should I be looking for? Thanks.

You could do better by looking for the SEAT or Skoda equivalent model. The badge on the front is not worth the extra money and VW dealers don't seem to get good comments on here.

Thanks Galileo but I have had a Seat Ibiza and I liked it but I need a car that is going to last and I think the Polo is for me. I'm not really bother about dealers particularly as I have a local garage which is brilliant for servicing etc.

I am still very interested in when to go in for a good deal though if anyone has any comments? I realised there will be a fine line between getting a good deal and them actually selling out of the model.

If you are going to buy now I would not expect any discount because of the new model coming - it's a bit too far off at the moment for them to be wanting to get rid of stock.

if you wait till the new one comes out, you risk the possibility of the factory having stopped production of the old model some time before, so that you have less choice of models and colours.

Look for discounts from brokers like Drivethedeal and Carfile, and see if a loal dealer can match them. I would think that there won't be much in it between now and June, as the current Polo has been in production for some time. The 1.2 105 bhp could be a good one to go for.

I have a Polo Match Edition TDI on order for March delivery. I have had Peugeot 207s for the last 6 years and whilst I like the car, have not been overly impressed with the aftersales service from the dealers I have used and Peugeot UK.

In the end I went through an online broker, as the local VW dealers seemed reluctant to move on price. In the end the deal was cheaper than what I was being asked to pay for an equivalent spec Ibiza and Peugeot 208. So far, so good and I have paid my deposit directly to the VW agent supplying the vehicle. As I am taking the vehicle on Volkswagen Solutions PCP, I get £1k deposit contribution from VW Finance, 3 years/30k service plan for £199. All in all it is around £2,200 off list.

My Sister has an 08 Polo and Mother a 12 Polo, and Dad a 62 Tiguan (all owned from new). All of which have so far been trouble free and good service provided by the servicing dealership nearby even though they were purchased elsewhere. So this steered me towards VW.

Hope this helps......

Also from what I understand and have read in the motoring press, it is more of a "minor facelift" than a complete new model....

Hi gillyd, your best chance to get the maximum discount on your VW polo model will be after the realease of a new model.

Thanks everyone, particularly Toblerone for your up to date VW purchasing info. The dealer did tell me that they would be be plenty of discount to be had in the next few months and mentioned the 1k off etc.

I bought my Seat Ibiza through on an online broker and found it a great way to buy a car but my last car I got the best deal through the local dealer. I definitely got the impression that the VW dealership wanted the sale whereas when I tried to get a deal on the Seat they could hardly be bothered to speak to me.

I think I'll give it a month or so and then get stuck in and if I dont get a decent deal I might hold out for the new model which is supposed to have better fuel economy.
