Audi A3 Sportback tdi DSG - Audi stop start now 50% effective - not starting - SimonParton
After 70k miles the stop start is failing to restart the car. Happens about once a week and is sporadic. Audi agent has tried to fix without success as no failure code is logged so they don't know why.
Last time took 3 goes to restart.
Any help appreciated.
Also how do I permanently turn it off? Agent claims this is not possible.

I guess this is the beauty of modern day electronics and diagnostics.Great when it works but a real pain when it is erratic. Is it possible that the battery is below par .Any low voltage here will prevent the system from operating.I would think that the system could be turned off with suitable equipment via the diagnostic link.hth

Most cars with Stop/Start have battery condition/charge as twoe of the parameters determining if the engine goes into the mode at all - if the battery is discharged then the engine should keep running.

When the stop/start acted up on my BMW 118D the problem was the battery. Luckily for me it was under warranty since batteries for stop/start cars are quite a bit more expensive than ordinary batteries. They sometimes need programming into the ECU so are not a simple DIY fit even if you can find one.

In general BMW's need their batteries coding and yes stop/start requires a battery with larger capacity, so costs more.

In general if the battery is low on charge, then the car should not stop engine in the first place. Thu it sounds to me the car is turning over but not starting? i.e. maybe a hot start issue?
