Jaguar S-Type 2.5 v6 on a 52 plate - restricted performance - wishmasters

hello there

had a restrictive performance code come up on my dash board

took it to be checked ...was told that the coil pack on no 2 was faulty

changed the one on the left middle unit looking at the engine from the front

still the same

changed again to another coil pack same again

could it be a simple plug fail ....

can this be changed without taking off the inlet manifould

regards

wishmasters

I'd be astounded if you really do need to remove the inlet manifold to change spark plugs!!

Once did a service on a v12 Mercedes and had to remove have the components under the bonnet to get to 6 of the plugs but I doubt the inlet manifold should come off a v6 jag.

Access to the 3 r/hand plugs on these requires removal of the manifold .No other way .Same as rear plugs on X type Jag .Other offenders are V6 Renault Laguna,V6 Vauxhall Vectra,V6 Mercedes V class and probably lots more.I have been told that access to plugs on the v6 Espace ,needs engine out!!

Then be astounded! :)

The inlet manifold needs to come off on the V6 X-Type, S-Type and XJ (X350) to change all the coil packs/spark plugs. For this reason they often never get done and cuase these sorts of problems.

some engineers somewhere need a good kicking!!

still, every day is a school day!

There's plenty of badly thought out designs out there. Like the landrover defender and the work needed to change the turbos.
