Does not have to be a cost difference at all. Many Nissans are pearl finish, our silver 55 plate Micra was, same extra cost as the metallics. Only difference is what makes the paint sparkle, in one its synthetic pearl, in the other its bits of aluminium.

That is not pearl, its a very expensive paint that is a total pain to patch. Forgot what its called, fortunately only Nissan on some Primeras and TVR used it.
