Got to over 5 figures and reserve not met! It is a very nice colour but the 1600cc isn't great. The low mileage and years off the road are not necesarily that good

Looking at the July 1980 Ford Cars All Model Catalogue I just happen to have in my filing cabinet, the 1.6GL Capri had 73 bhp, 87 ftlb and a 0-60 of 13.0 secs and a maximum speed of 99 mph if it was a manual, about the same as a base Ka these days - even slower at 15.8 / 96 if it was automatic !

Fuel consumption, on a different test to currently, was 31.7 mpg at 75mph and 27.4 mpg urban.

List price in 1980 was £4745.14 plus standard Ford delivery charge of £72.27

I just hope that whoever buys it will enjoy and use it.

Rarity value I suppose. Interesting how basic a GL looks these days, not even a rev counter.

Between 1986 and 1988 I had a 2.0S of similar vintage (UVY 717V IIRC) in Signal Orange. That had chequered seats and a 6 dial instrument cluster. It had the same brown carpets and door trims though!

Nice car in its day, felt quite quick with 98 BHP! 28 MPG overall. Had the usual Capri Mk III problem of steering vibration and discs which went out of true alarmingly quickly.

Got rear-ended by a Nissan Patrol at a zebra crossing, never felt the same after.

2.0 OHC Capri was quite a nice car-far superior to the 2.0 V6 sold in Germany.

Until I just looked on Wikipedia I didn't realise the Cologne V6 was made in so many different capacities - the 2.3, 2.6, 2.8 and 2.9 I was familiar with - but there were also 1.8, 2.0, and 4.0 versions with the 1.8/2.0 only going into German Fords and the 4.0 only going into American Fords..

The professionals was pretty much a ford advert.

"Product placement" has gone on in films and TV since they were invented - I think Emmerdale is currently using Land Rovers.

Talking product placement, apparently Jaguar missed a trick with supplying cars for the original 'The Saint' so Volvo enjoyed cult status instead.

The original was a P1800 built by Jensen in West Bromwich - the next 4 were P1800S built by Volvo in Sweden.

Jaguar supplied an XJ-S for the Return of the Saint, a much rebuilt development car
