Whatever happened to Bogush? - Andrew-T

(for those with long memories) Can he be masquerading as Skidpan? :-) I'm sure Avant will remember ...

Whatever happened to Bogush? - dimdip

Was he the guy who used to go on about speed limits being 'a number on a tin sign'? If so -- legend. :)

Whatever happened to Bogush? - Avant

I looked on forum search and he (I presume a he) joined in 2002, soon after the forum started, but his last post was in September 2003. I joined in early 2004, so hadn't heard of him until now.

So we may never know. One of those people about whom you wonder where they came by their nom de clavier. Maybe he was an Irishman - Brendan O'Gush.

Whatever happened to Bogush? - KB.

I was here during his (very doubtful he was a she) reign. He gets a mention if you Google him. I recall there were frequent "upsets" and ructions. I seem to think he was an ABD man...and somewhat vehemently so at that. That was a good while ago wasn't it?

Whatever happened to Bogush? - dimdip

^ That does sound like the poster I was thinking of. One of those people with huge energy for posting...

"One of those people with huge energy for posting..."

Like Jamie, you mean? Come to think of it, he seems to have lost his mojo...

Oh, Lord - what have I said?

I was here at time and knew him as Bogbrush. Impossible to rationalise with him as he wa shapeshifter.

The term these days would be Troll....

Bogus"One of those people about whom you wonder where they came by their nom de clavier. Maybe he was an Irishman - Brendan O'Gush."

In his own words: "Bogush is a diminutive for my first name*, though most people settle for Bob..."

Again: "I don’t mind upsetting people with the truth. To improve knowledge, and, hopefully, public safety. If that makes me an unpopular troll, so be it." (Ah - that old chestnut. If I speak the truth, that justifies everything. The trouble is, it's my version of the truth, not necessarily the real version.)

Quotations from tinyurl.com/5w5x4rb

Other aliases include: Bob Mann, BJ Mann, Bogush Manovich.

* My guess is that he is Polish/East European and "Bogush" is in fact Bogus (pronounced much the same, should have an accent on the s), a dimunitive form of Bogdan.

I remember Bogbrush. If anyone said something he disagreed with, he would swamp the thread with aggressive d*****.

Odd you should say he was East European. We have two East Europeans at work. One is a complete nutter. She would sing, which was excrutiatingly unpleasant but people were frightened to ask her to stop as she is so aggressive. She has screamed at several people. The other has emotional tantrums, and can be very aggressive.

Those star replaced "rivel". I don't like the fact that the swear filter has made it look like I was swearing when I wasn't.

Those star replaced "rivel". I don't like the fact that the swear filter has made it look like I was swearing when I wasn't.

For reasons I've never fully understood the swearfilter is sensitive to words that are offensive in far-east english that mean nothing or are very mild in UK.

Whatever happened to Bogush? - Avant

For reasons known only to the software, I can add words to the swear filter but can't take them out. Otherwise I would gladly have taken that word out.

Anyway we seem to have managed pretty well without Brendan O'Gush.

According to his web site he has been banned by numerous forums. It seems he regards it as silencing his right to express the truth. So it goes.

Whatever happened to Bogush?

Who cares?

He never had anything constructive to say.

This describes him well:

In Internet slang, a troll is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, or with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

Only a real Troll would say such a thing. You should be banned.

Whatever happened to Bogush? - Hamsafar

He lives/lived on my road, but I'm not sure who he is. He used to write to the Nottingham Evening Post a lot >12 years ago during the fuel protests and they included the streetname in the footname. I checked and ndeed someone lived on this road with these initials and surname name, as I looked on the electoral roll out of curiosity. He also had a website called Bogush's Lair.

^ good detective work.

While we're stuck, like a Porsche-owing professional footballer, down memory lane, does anyone remember the young Geordie Lada owner who was another character in the early HJ forum? He regularly came in for some serious stick as I recall.

Whatever happened to Bogush? - Bromptonaut

Geordie or Mancunian?

Whatever happened to Bogush? - Avant

That sounds like Rattle, from Manchester, who had a Fiesta but his dad had a Lada. He's active on another forum now, still repairing PCs and living with mum and dad, but driving a Panda.

Whatever happened to Bogush? - dimdip

Could've sworn he was geordie as I remember someone saying he should be fed to the fish in the Tyne, but yep, that's definitely him, ta. Surprised he's still living with his dad after all the reported stair-rod abuse...

Was it Growler and his good lady, Growlette? who posted here? And did he sadly meet an untimely end? I seem to think he lived abroad, somewhere hot and dusty. Did he spell Growler with an oddity in there? Maybe GRowler? I think he put me in mind of a hairy biker but I'm not sure why. I think Growlette was of Asian extraction ...or was it Phillipines? Someone will remember.

EDIT....Just thought to Google the name. It was THe Growler with a capital H. And he was a biker and Growlette did mention his illness in a post on the site. Phillipines looks right..

My memory corresponds with all those details. He told us a lot about the Philippines. I believe his wife (not the first I think) was quite a bit younger. Sadly I suppose they may both have perished in recent events. Phil. is not hot and dusty though ....

Whatever happened to Bogush? - dimdip

Sad to hear of THe Growler's passing and indeed hope Growlette is okay. She was an astute and funny contributer, too. TG had a fleet of vintage Mustangs if I remember rightly?

Whatever happened to Bogush? - Mazda-Man

IIRC THe Growler died of cancer some years ago, nothing to do with recent events. His wife posted here a few times after he passed away.

As for Bogush - he was verbose in the extreme and about as much fun as a f*** in a lift.

Whatever happened to Bogush? - cockle {P}

THe Growler passed away in Sept 2006 after being diagnosed with colon cancer earlier that year.

He did, indeed, have vintage Mustangs, but his true love was riding Harleys around the Philippines in company with other bikers and with Growlette (Catherine) on the pillion.

IIRC, he lived about an hour from Quezon City and did some work for Dell and Intel out there.

His 'Letters from the Colonies' were a wonderful read, do a search and enjoy, he'd like that.....

Whatever happened to Bogush? - Bromptonaut

+1, like or whatever.

I didn't always agree with his politics but his accounts of life in the Phillipines were a hugely entertaining read. Both he and Growlette were gifted writers. IIRC HJ tried to get them slots in the UK press but without success

I'm sure I was in love with pologirl!

Whatever happened to Bogush? - wemyss

Yes he tried with the Telegraph and surprisingly was turned down. I seem to recall some kind of get together in this country attended by HJ and Growler and several other posters of the time. There was pictures of this at the time on the internet. Perhaps HJ could tell us.

Yes it was 2004 when the Growler visited. Just found the post referring to it. The photos can still be found apparently somewhere on HJs site.
