Didn't they trial them in New York many moons ago, fell to bits ISTR.

They couldn't cope with Sydney's steep hills. Most taxis are V6/V8. They don't notice hills and run on an LPG at a fraction the price of diesel/petrol!

New York has long used the Ford Crown Victoria as it's main taxi, I believe they're using the Prius now, running to 400k without incident.

Nissan won an exclusive contract to replace the Crown Victoria and to supply New York with taxis based on the NV200 van. Although the exclusivity part of the contract has been challenged in the courts, Nissan expect to begin sales next month.

Nissan are also working on a version for London.
