Alloy wheel refurbishment - help! - HlizS

Hey - can anyone recommend a place that does alloy wheel repairs in the Crawley/Gatwick area? Got two scuffed alloys that need fixing before I sell my car. Not sure who to go so opinions welcome :)

If you want a proper job try these

www.spitandpolish.co.uk/home.html Tonbridge.

www.smartalloyrefurb.co.uk second link may not be clickable but theres enough of an address there for you to find them....i haven't personally used either.

A local smart repairer should be able to fill rub down and paint them enough for sale purposes too.

Wheel works off Fleming way.

Not used them myself but they have been around for years and always seem busy.

I visited Wheelworks and found the chap there very helpful. I didn't get my wheels done in the end, as they don't refurbish diamond-cut wheels, but I liked what i saw, and they have received recommendations on other forums.

I had my Passat alloys done there 2 years ago. The wheels had quite a few scuffs and some kerbing and a lot of "corrosion" around the middle of each wheel and spreading. I was delighted with the work they did returning the wheels to as new condition and they still look as good now, no quality problems at all.

Maybe slightly off topic, but as a corollary to the comment above, We regularly have to advise clients who are returning leased cars at the end of contracts, and Diamond Cut wheels are becoming a nightmare.

They are almost impossible to refurbish to BVRLA standards by anyone but a few speciallists.

My first advice- Keep at least 6 inches from any kerb or be prepared for a repair/refurbishment charge of £150 per corner minimum.

My best advice: Steer clear of Diamond Cut wheels.

Agreed, they look lovely in the showroom, and thats the best place for them.

I've delivered cars brand new cars fitted with these wheels that have been stood for a few months and the tell tale spider trails have been feathering out from the spigot already, new wheels under warranty before they were even registered, wonderful.

Thanks for all the advice! I went with ChipsAway Crawley in the end (http://www.chipsawaycrawley.co.uk/) Didn't realise they did alloy repairs as well but a friend went there recently and saw that they did. A very good job :)

Couldn't agree more. Had 2 replaced by Mercedes at their cost and I noticed that one of the remaining 2 has the tell tale spidering from the centre. Another visit to the dealer beckons.

So far I've managed not to kerb any of the alloys in just over 12 months ownership but I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

I suppose we should vote with our feet but it seems a bit drastic to not purchase a car on the basis of the alloys wheels fitted.

Most manufacturers give a choice of alloy, surely? Or simply insist!! If they want the sale...............
