Why do They give a much Higher price to existing customers than New.

Every year I have to Wrangle with them to get the same price as a new customer would, despite me never having called them out. A difference of 100%

Today the guy was telling me The RAC were a load of rubbish, which is contrary to my excellent experience of them, with my fleet cars.

So today i've cancelled the AA.

I agree, I was a customer for 26 years but its cheaper if your a new customer and it really needs sorting ! Just a scam like sky.

I always have to get a quote from RAC and green flag and then negotiate ! Which too me seems ridiculous.

They too tried to tell me that they are the number 1service , but I have only used them twice in 26 years and the first time I reported a breakdown at 18.00 hrs and was able to tell them my distributor had failed and it was a 4x4 so would need a full recovery but they sent out a patrol who confirmed the situation who then sent out an spectacle recovery to recover until I pointed out it was 4x4 so then had to wait for a flat bed which arrived at 23.00 hrs !!! And arrived home at 01.30 in the morning ! And 2 nd and only other time was breakdown on m25 and had to wait4.5 hrs so they are no better than anyone else !

Like injection doc says there all the same I broke down at 5pm at Deptford incinerator in a 26000kg dust cart (rear stear axel had gone) I I phoned transport services who isued a company calld lantern recovery who phond me to say 2 hours so I said ok and waited for them.

4 hours later a transit turned up with a a frame to tow me to my depo. He was as confused as I was. By 11:40 a low loder truned up but couldn't loade me because the axel was so bent it wouldn't go in the trailer. I eventually was recoverd to the depo at 2am. At least I got paid for it but this is the only tume iv had to be recovered and all I know is I hope lantern recovery never get the call if ever break down in the future.

GEM - £80 for my wife & I - any car.....does not have Eurocover but has all the bells and whistles I need AND it avoids the annual hassle of doubling the premium and then taking money off.

My DiL has Toyota care on the RAV - comprehensive breakdown cover from AA - home start, relay etc etc

£60 per year!

I think the AA and RAC both operate the same policy - recovery can't be initiated until a patrol has been and inspected the vehicle.

It's a policy that stinks - if you have a 4wd automatic, then towing isn't an option so why not send out a flatbed as soon as possible? The policy is made even worse when they "prioritize" other members before yourself and use a relay system - waiting 4 hours for a patrol, another 2 hours for a flatbed and then waits at each relay point would try the patience of a saint.

Green Flag are much better - they do try to get you to agree a patrol/garage will visit first but once you convince them of the real nature of the problem they will/do send a flatbed straight out and the recovery is in one go.

Even when my new car gets recovery as part of it's package, usually with AA or RAC, I still keep my Green Flag policy going to ensure decent service if it's needed.

Same with Britannia. Used them 4 times in last year across both cars. If my diagnosis by phone is that it'll be a tow job - clutch pedal on floor or LHM dumped for example - I've gone straight onto a flatbed.

Exceptions were two calls in Sheffield to what at first sight was a 'dead key' - no power to start. They sent a motorbike first as these are on call round city for simple breakdowns. Good rationale as they can go anywhere including m/s car parks. He jump started it but it died again on inner ring road. This time a full fat diesel transit came out and tech diagnosed real problem as a loose connection to alternator. Pole tow back to the depot and, as they couldn't fix it on site, a flat bed home.

Moved between Britania and Green Flag over years but never considered AA/RAC even before the PE vampires took them over. Cover with Brtiannia includes any driver of both our own cars plus Mrs B and I in any other car.

Have also heard good things about autoebid but they dont cover European travel.

I also left AA because they added 50% to the policy cost for being a loyal customer who didnt use them!

Currently dont have any cover which is a bit risky, noticed RAC advertising 40% off

Is this the best deal around?

I have used Autonational Rescue for about 8 years now.

Despite the Thunderbirds name and low profile, they offer comprehensive cover (roadside repair/recovery/at home/euro cover etc) for £69.

I have two cars covered for £99.

I turned my back on the AA decades ago because they were more interested in selling finance related products and tacky rubbish rather than rescuing motorists.

They are just another corporate imbroglio that diversified so much they lost sight of the actual reason for their existence, which is to assist motorists. And if Green Flag go the same way I will move away from them.

I've needed to be recovered twice-I knew the problem in both cases and just wanted recovery home-Britannia Rescue turned up both times in under half an hour-once with a flatbed truck and once with a spectacle lift.

They've outpriced themselves now (and i'm now with Autoaid too) but for years i was with Autohome, Northampton based but nationwide recovery service.

Very good when you need them, used them twice full recovery no problems, no relaying the full distance on one vehicle in both cases but i expect they and any smaller recovery people try to work together to keep their vehicles as local possible which would make sense.

Long ago gave up with the sales techniques of AA etc.

Much of modern business practice annoys me especially insurance based things, penalise good long term customers who try their best not to claim at all...and mitigate their costs if they do...whilst drawing in customers they don't know from a bar of soap with special deals.

Strange old world we live in now.

reckon they hope you won't notice the new higher fee. Best thing is to tell the AA you have a much better deal elsewhere but if they can match it....if not good bye.

Have joined autonational rescue

I got a fantastic deal.

1st car
Basic cover - try and fix you and get you off the motorway
(cheaper than the highways agency ringing their mate to come along and tow you off the motorway for £200!).
2nd car
Uk wide car and passenger re-patriation

Both cars for £49 for 15 months.

Autonational resuce are currently giving you 15 months for the price of 12.
Excellent deal and cheaper than the £29 RAC wanted for the basic cover on just 1 car.

Do people buy breakdown insurance on price or cover?

For me, it's define the cover I want first and avoid any supplier that doesn't give that sort of cover.

When you need them, they're not all equal.
