Noted the blog in Autocar.

How low do they go before your cannot say no!

MG 6 - Well would you? - Collos25

Even at that price they are not a bargain they are basically worthless I do not know UK dealer who would pay anything for one and another downside is they are absolutely horrible to drive.

Actually they are not horrible to drive.

MG 6 - Well would you? - Collos25

They are b***** awful.

MG 6 - Well would you? - gordonbennet

I would if i wanted a standard car, but i'd look after it to make it last as long as possible.

Fifteen years ago, I would probably already have one as I had an MG back then. Were it not for a change in circumstances I would have one now, but probably a diesel. I look for cars that are a fairly rare and these are certainly rare. At those prices, I could be swayed by the petrol version.

Carless25, just read Steve Cropley's report in this week's Autocar magazine.

If the MG3 devalues in the same way, it'll be a bargain in 12 months or so.

If there was an estate I'd be interested.

I don't need to read any report I have had one for a week on test. Its b***** awful and anybody who says different must be on loopy juice.

So that's that then, useless. Problem is, Collos, your views tend to be a bit deviant. This one reminds me of J Clarkson's remarks on the old-style Top Gear. After he had 'reviewed' a car, we knew nothing about it except whether JC liked it, or didn't.

Badly put together on a par with FSO and BMC ,old fashioned ,very dated look on a par with a 70s cortina ,seats uncomfortable and cheaply made, engine and gearbox out of a tractor or feels like it.

Need any more or is that enough to be going on with.

Even if they gave you the car where would you go for spare parts and were would you take it if it broke down the only agent for miles around near my mothers gave up haveing not sold one in two years and I have never seen an agent in mainland Europe.

Give them time.

I remember back in the 1960s a similar thing with small Honda 50's, the British motorcycle industry said something like "These will never catch on"

In th 1970's when datsuns first appeared on the scene buy look at Japanese cars now.

I don't need to read any report I have had one for a week on test. Its typical chinese b***** awful and anybody who says different must be on loopy juice.

To be honest we deserve a bit more context other than awful, if they are that bad then it should be easy.

eg - Road noise ? Steering ? Interior fit & finish ? etc etc

It feels slightly low rent inside and the engine is merely adequate, but the ride and handling is pretty good - far better than many nose-heavy VAG group saloon cars in terms of chassis dynamics, if you think it's that bad then I sorry to say you know nothing about cars.

MG 6 - Well would you? - Colin_r

No, really don't like the car. And I don't think I would ever buy a chinese car, I've always had a german ;)

MG 6 - Well would you? - 72 dudes

I was about to say "No way" until I clicked on the link and saw the prices. I guess for anyone who just wants basic transport, is not particularly interested in 'brand' and intends to keep the car for 5 years or so, can afford the RFL and petrol, they are stunning value, especially the 12/18 month old ones at £7k.

Put it this way: An MG6 with 12k on the clock or a Dacia Sandero, no brainer.

'Nuff said!

Fantastic value for money.

The only thing that would put me off is the dealer network, they lack presence.

I thought they where about to announce a tie up with one of the big dealership chains? Was it Bristol Street?

Our local Toyota dealer has 18 to sell: starting at £8475 sorry £7475

(Edit: Offensive remark deleted which gave rise to this justified comment.)

That's not remotely funny and is in bad taste-my wife's BIL has just had to have one, if you had any idea of the effect it has on people you wouldn't joke about it.

Go away and don't come back-ever.

Don't know about anyone else, but Have driven, not bad, but seating position bad for me, (6' 2")

I dislike the anti foreign joke because look how we laughed at the japanese 40-50 years ago, and look how they made the uk and others pull their socks up on quality control.

If there was a better seating position, yes I would at £7475!

If I was in the market for a large new car I would have a look at the £8999 S model with a few conditions.

First, there would have to be a convenient dealer, no point buying cheap it its a day off work etc just to get a small job sorted. Our nearest dealer is 16 miles away which applies to most makes.

Second, it would have to drive, ride etc OK, no point buying cheap if its an uncomfortable noisy dog. Test drive needed.

Third, they are petrols and thirsty ones at that. Consider fuel costs. OK for me,do 7000 miles a year.

Depreciation would not bother me particularly at that price. Even a nearly new supermarket Mondeo will loose £10,000 over 5 years, the MG would loose less than that if you gave it away after 5 years.

Trouble is would I want to be a test pilot for an unknown brand, not sure about that.

MG 6 - Well would you? - SteveLee

They drive and ride pretty well. The chassis is fairly neutral and the damping is very well judged. The engine has enough torque but isn't refined when pushed and isn't particularly economical (but by no means dreadful either) if you row it along on mid-range torque then it's fine. The interior feels more like an American car - scratchy plastics and not particularly stylish - could I live with an MG6? Yep - it's great value. A Mondeo is far better but then you can't buy a six month old one with 8,000 miles on the clock for £10K. Excellent chassis dynamics aside the MG6 feels like a generation older car - which is a perfectly acceptable means of transport - particularly of you like the idea of a new or nearly new family sized car for the price of a VAG supermini.

How many dealers do they currently have?
