You are parked on level 2 of 3, the pay as you leave ticket machine is out of order, you go down to level one, that machine is out of order so you go up to level three, it's working so you pay and legs aching get back to the car and leave. You get to the barrier and it's been open all the time and you can just leave and needn't have paid at all!
